Biocompatible-Coating is based on novel surface modification
reagents and processes developed by BioChrom Labs. It is ideal for BioMedical
Applications. These technologies can be used for many medical devices
and diagnostic products. Experimental results have indicated that Biocompatible-Coat
can prevent activation of blood cells.
The advantages of Biocompatible-Coating are:
- Versatility and Non-ionic: Unique surface coating chemistries provide
a hydrophilic, bio-compatible surface to a wide variety of materials;
plastics, metals, ceramics, and the coating renders the surface non-ionic.
- Complete Surface Coverage: Complete and even surface coverage while
competitive technologies leave non-covered areas.
- Extremely Mild Coating Conditions: Can be applied to the sensitive
medical devices without the application of heat, adverse pH conditions,
or the use of organic solvents or UV light.
- Derivable Surface: Surface functional groups can be easily modified,
e.g. from hydroxyl to amine or carboxyl groups to form different ionic
charges and lipophilicities, etc. Capable of optimum side chain additions
to obtain the desired biological functions.
- Controllable Thickness: Surface coating thickness is controllable
from a few molecules to a fairly thick layer of coating material.
- Low Cost and Non-toxic: The reagents are produced from inexpensive
raw materials and they are non-toxic both on application and in the
final coating form.
- Durability: Extremely stable surface coating, resistant to drastic
condition such as high pressure (over 4000 psi), pH (1 to 14), and
most organic solvents.
- Sterilization: Can be achieved by most conventional methods. The
choice of sterilization technique is generally governed by other aspects
of the construction and operation of the device.
BioChrom is pursuing application specific commerical collaborations.
